MacArthur’s football team dominates the field to go undefeated

Going 4-0 at the SAUSD Intermediate School tournament, MacArthur’s football team repeated as champions for the third straight year.

MacArthur’s Football team showed off their spirit, pride, and achievement by dominating and winning first place in the district tournament on Saturday, October 15th at Saddleback High School from 8:30-2:30.

The three time undefeated team went against four schools in 30 minute games. They scored 13-0 against Sierra Preparatory Academy, 26-0 against Henninger Elementary.  In the semi-final they won 20-0 against Santiago Elementary and took the win in the final game 13-6, against Villa Fundamental Intermediate School.

Football coach Mr. Terry Young, said “I think this was my proudest team. They hardly knew the game, but learned it.” He also said that his MVP (Most Valuable Player) would be his line men or as he likes to call them Young’s un-sung heros which were Jesus Barragan, Isaac Bonilla, George Castillo, Pablo Flores, Adam Olivares, Manuel Ortiz, Gabriel Rodriguez, Robert Rodriguez, and Mark Roman.

MacArthur’s team has been undefeated since the tournament from 2014. This year, MacArthur’s team had 29 players.

Wide Receiver eighth-grader Carlos Ortuno said, “When we won I felt that I accomplished something, and all my hard work payed off.”

As a bit of historical trivia, the parents of Frankie Gonzalez, Nathan Tagoloa, and Daylen Pedroza also played on an undefeated MacArthur football team.

8th grader, Marwan Ahmed, said “I chose number 11 because it’s been my jersey number for every sport since I was little.”
