Ms. Velarde fills in for Mr. Gonzales for the remainder of school year

Teaching eighth-grade history for the remainder of the school year, Ms. Marlo Velarde takes over Mr. Ray Gonzales teaching assignments since he became assistant principal.

Ms. Marlo Velarde is our new social studies teacher for eighth grade.  She attended the University of California Santa Barbara and completed her bachelor’s program.  Later, she attended Cal State Long Beach where she received her teaching credentials.  She will teach at MacArthur as long as the school needs her.  She is replacing Mr. Ray Gonzales because he is now our acting assistant principal.

Velarde is looking forward to working with all of her students creating fun and interesting assignments about U.S. history. “I am excited to help you guys understand,” said Velarde.

Her favorite lesson to teach is about the Renaissance.  Velarde first started teaching at Carr Intermediate seventh-grade social studies such as Renaissance and the 1500’s.  This is her first year teaching U.S. history.

“It is too bad I am not in seventh grade, so that I can experience the Renaissance fair,” said Velarde.

Velarde’s students are treating her nice and are very welcoming.  “MacArthur has a really united school climate.”  She also said, “Students are friendly and kind; they work together and build each other up.”

Velarde’s favorite president is Teddy Roosevelt.  Teddy Roosevelt was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer who served as the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909.  He was in office from September 14, 1901 – March 4, 1909.  She also likes U.S. modern history after World War II.

Some challenging aspects of teaching is learning all the names and getting used to all the different personalities of each student.
