STORY: The Power Rangers is a movie that was based on a 1990s children’s TV show. The basic plot of the movie is that five teenagers discovered the Ranger Power Coins deep within a mine. The power of these colored coins transformed them from teenagers to superheroes overnight.  However, with power comes responsibility.  The young warriors have the task of saving mankind by defending Earth’s Zeo Crystal from a former Green Ranger who has turned bad.  Also, returning villain Rita Repulsa and her gold giant Goldar lead the antagonists.  Mentoring the Rangers are former Red Ranger Zordon and Alpha-5, the robot.

REVIEW: Although not for everyone, this movie was a new and improved version of the 90’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.  The actors did a great job, especially Naomi Scott, who played the Pink Ranger, and Dacre Montgomery, who playied the Red Ranger.  Also, Elizabeth Banks put in a solid performance as Rita Repulsa.  Compared to the TV show, all the acting and performances were much improved.  

Sadly, if you did not compare it to the older show, this movie does fall short.  It is not a great superhero movie like others recently, such as many of the Marvel movies.  The plot is a little uneven because it feels like three or four TV episodes glued together.  Basically, the Rangers work their way through a series of challenges.  And, surprise!, they win.

This movie will probably not bring in many new fans, but for people who do go to see it, it is a decent action movie.  For younger viewers and fans, it does include themes and morals on teamwork, the damaging effects of bullies, and the importance of friendship.  

Overall, Power Rangers was not a great movie, but it did make some strong improvements over the original TV show.  Go ahead and watch it, if you are interested.
