Going undefeated at the SAUSD intermediate school tournament, the lady tigers won the volleyball championship.

The MacArthur Girls Volleyball team won the championship for the second straight year at the district tournament that happened on Saturday, October 15 at Saddleback High School from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The two-time champions defeated McFadden 25-15 and 25-8.  The team won three games against Spurgeon: 15-25, 28-26, and 15-6.  They defeated Sierra in the semifinal 25-12 and 25-6. In the final game, MacArthur overcame Mendez 25-13, 25-17.

Volleyball Coach Mrs. Katherine Carrigan said, “In the tournament, the girls displayed all their skills and hard work from six weeks of practice.”  She believes that they started off really nervous, but improved throughout the day.

Coach Carrigan said that Ruth Nieto scored most points, showed most dedication, and improvement. Also, Mrs. Carrigan said that eighth grader Natalie Gonzalez would be MVP (Most Valuable Player) along with Ruth.

“I felt all the adrenaline. I was also excited, but nervous at the same time,” said Natalie.  “I felt as if I was trying too hard.  After we won, I felt happy because that all the hard work I put into the game paid off.”
