Segerstrom High School invites eighth graders and parents for evening orientation

Similar to high school visitation, Segerstrom High School hosted an orientation so parents would get the same presentation as eighth graders.

The counseling staff at Segerstrom high school put together a high school orientation on March 13,  2017, which was 10 days prior to the March 22 high school visitation day for all eighth grade students.  The evening orientation allowed counselors to have direct communication with parents and students, simultaneously.

The counseling staff and administration thought it would be a good idea to introduce the high school curriculum and expectations to the parents before their son/daughter attends.  They also wanted to introduce athletics and all the extra help they offer on campus.

This orientation was intended for the parents and the incoming high school students to get to know their counselors and all the athletics Segerstrom high school offers.  There were 700 people who attended the orientation. The orientation started at 5:30 PM, so that there was time for the families and students to get some food at the food trucks that attended.  There was a truck that was selling hot dogs and french fries, there was another truck selling tacos and a snack stand that had shaved ice and chips.

Some of the information given was briefly explained during high school visitation day.  Mr. Frankie Gonzalez, a counselor at Segerstrom high school, said, “You know it’s a success because everyone was very attentive, asked lots of questions, and we had to send over flow to a different room and every single parent stayed at the end of the presentation when questions were being asked.”

There were many concerned parents and parents that wanted to be involved with their son/daughter’s future school.  A popular question that was asked was “Are the classes that my daughter got set and stored?” meaning could schedules still be changed.
