How to Train Your Dragon 3 is an emotional payoff

The final movie in the franchise is a must watch for fans of the series.

On February 22, the third movie in the How To Train Your Dragon franchise, The Hidden World, was released.  This is an outstanding movie that shows how the loveable night fury dragon, Toothless, and his longtime friend and trainer, Hiccup, have grown up over the course of the trilogy.

Throughout the How To Train Your Dragon franchise, the main characters Hiccup Haddock and his dragon companion Toothless, the last of his species, become best friends as they journey together and find new species of dragons they have not discovered before.

A new species of dragon introduced in The Hidden World is the female light fury, who looks like Toothless, except is all white instead of all black.  Hence, her species is named light fury instead of night fury. Naturally, Toothless becomes in love with her as she also falls for him as well. She soon leads him to the hidden world and shows him his rightful place as the king of dragons.

What I like about the third movie is how it really shows both Toothless and Hiccup becoming attached to their duties as chief and king of their own kind.  Looking at how Toothless takes to his role as king of the dragons once he finds the hidden world, a safe place for dragons outside the reach of humans and dragon hunters.

I like that Toothless is so curious to see someone just like him for the first time.  As they grow close, the light fury teaches toothless one of her abilities to disappear.  Hiccup, on the other hand, is thinking he is now vulnerable without Toothless.  It is up to Astrid, Hiccup’s love interest in the movie, to help him see for himself that is not true.

Soon, the love stories serve as a distraction that the villain, Grimmel the Grisly, takes advantage of.  Similar to the other movies, there is a climactic battle, full of excitement and some humor.

There is an emotional goodbye near the end of the movie. However, this goodbye is heartfelt because we have become attached to Hiccup and Toothless over the course of three movies.  While each movie in the franchise seemed to have an emotional moment toward the end, the goodbye at the end of The Hidden World seemed to have an impact because its finality.  This seems like the end of the series.

If you are a very emotional and energetic person, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is the BEST movie for you. You should watch it and see for yourself how strong animated characters can make you feel.  I would recommend watching this movie if you are ever in the mood to watch a heartwarming movie.
