Boys soccer ends undefeated, champions!

Winning three travel games and four games at the tournament, MacArthur Boys Soccer wins the championship.

The MacArthur Boys Soccer Team went undefeated en route to winning the championship at the end of the S.A.U.S.D. Intermediate School tournament. At the tournament, MacArthur defeated  Santiago, Learning Academy, Mendez, and the last team they played in the tournament was Carr.

Part of the team’s success was the coaching from P.E. Teacher Mr. Charlie Manfre.  “I haven’t coached a school sport in 18 years, but all the boys asked me to,” said Manfre.  “I am satisfied with how all the games went.”

At the December 3 tournament, MacArthur played Santiago K-8 winning 4-0. The Boys Soccer team played three more teams, beating the Advanced Learning Academy 3-1, Mendez 1-0, and Carr Intermediate 2-1, which caused MacArthur to win the tournament.

Part of the team’s success was from eighth-grader Jayden M. “We got a lot of experience. We knew it was going to be very hard to win the tournament,” said Jayden. “ I think I did really good in the tournament and also I scored 5 goals during the entire tournament.”

The first traveling game was MacArthur visiting Carr Intermediate after rain forced MacArthur from its home field. On November 9, MacArthur defeated Carr by a score of 2-0.

The next game for MacArthur was against Villa Fundamental Intermediate. MacArthur played at home at 3:30 on Monday, November 15.  Jayden dominated the game, scoring a hat-trick in the second half.  An additional goal was scored by seventh-grader Jaime G.  The final score was a MacArthur victory, 4-0. It was another win for MacArthur and they are undefeated.

The last game for MacArthur was against McFadden. MacArthur went on the road to play an away game against McFadden. They played on Wednesday, November 16. There was not a lot of action in the first half due to the weather conditions. But once the second half started Joshua O. made a nice cross from the corner kick and centered it to Jayden who headered it in for the first goal of the game. McFadden scored right after which tied up the score 1-1. But MacArthur got a free kick outside the box and Joshua stepped up to take it and he scored a beautiful freekick and that made MacArthur win the game 2-1.

Seventh grader Sebastian M. also played in the soccer tournament. “ I learned to communicate more and to take everything seriously during games,” said Sebastian. “ Yes, I think I played well in the tournament and I scored the game-winning goal to send our team to the final against Carr.:
