Choir performs Winter Concert

Performing a selection of holiday songs, MacArthur choir performed at Santa Ana High School.

“I felt like the crowd was very lively and festive and we really tried our hardest. The crowd looked like they were very into our songs, so we were all glad they liked it too.  I really felt the vibe of Christmas,” said third-year choir member Mia Guadarrama, eighth grader.

All MacArthur choir students had their first concert, conducted by Choir Teacher Ms. Nicole Eastly, at Santa Ana High School at 7:00 PM, Wednesday December 7.

There wereabout 180 students performing, and each choir sang about four songs; 15 songs were sung in total.  The first group to go up was beginning girls choir followed by the boys choir, then   the advanced girls choir had their turn, and to finish the night off concert choir performed last.

According to Eastly, the choirs have been putting a lot of time and energy into the performance.  They started practicing for this concert since the beginning of school, which is three and a half months worth of practice for this concert.

Eastly felt “great, proud of the kids, very happy” with the performance the students put up.  Eastly’s favorite song was Coventry Carol sung by advanced girls because they sang it beautifully.

To Eastly, choir means “a place where people can make beautiful music together and have fun at the same time.”

Mia said, “Well first of all we all get to sing in school!  As a class!  And not get in trouble for it!  I think that is really cool.  What I like about choir is we get to express ourselves in a healthy way and we can let out everything through music.  Working on songs is a lot of work, but once we’re up there singing it all together – it’s worth it.”

Another eighth grader who has been in choir for three years is Jenna Palomino. Jenna enjoys choir because “it’s something that I love to do and I can do it with the people I care about.”  This concert made her feel “good to be interacting with my friends.”
